Privacy Policy
Effective Date: September 14, 2026
Ben Boyd ("we", "us", or "our") operates the Avocado mobile application (the "Service"). This privacy policy outlines how we handle data when you use the Service.
1. Information Collection and Use
We are committed to minimizing data collection. The Avocado application operates primarily as an "offline-first" tool.
1.1. Account Information
- Google Sign-In: We require users to authenticate via Google Sign-In. We collect and store your primary email address and the date you first registered. This information is used strictly for account management purposes (such as determining eligibility for "grandfathered" features) and is securely managed via Google Firebase Authentication.
1.2. Financial and Travel Data
- Local Storage: All data relating to your trips, budgets, expenditures, and financial planning is stored locally on your device using a local database. We do not sync, upload, or transmit your financial or travel data to our servers or any cloud storage.
1.3. Device Permissions
To provide specific features, Avocado requests access to the following device permissions:
- Camera: Used to capture images within the app (e.g., photographing receipts for Smart Receipt OCR). Receipt images and text recognition are processed locally and remain on your device.
- Location: Used for context-specific features related to your travel logs. Location data is processed locally and not transmitted to our servers.
- Local File Storage: Used to import or export files (e.g., CSV imports or saving backups) locally on your device.
2. Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to ensure the app functions properly. These services may collect information as outlined below:
2.1. Firebase Crashlytics
- We use Firebase Crashlytics (provided by Google) to monitor app stability and track technical errors. If the app crashes, anonymous diagnostic data (such as device state, operating system version, and stack traces) is sent to Crashlytics to help us fix the issue. This data is not linked to your personal identity. Firebase Privacy Policy.
2.2. Supabase
- We use Supabase edge functions to securely fetch the latest foreign exchange (FX) rates. When Avocado requests an updated rate, no user data, device identifiers, or personal information is transmitted—only the raw currency codes being requested.
3. Data Retention and Deletion
Because your financial data is stored only on your device, you have complete control over it. If you uninstall the app or clear the app's local storage, your budget and trip data is permanently deleted from your device.
For the account data we do store (your email address and sign-up date), you have the right to request deletion. You can request account deletion by contacting us at the email address below or following the steps on our Account Deletion page.
4. Children's Privacy
Our Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal identifiable information from children under 13.
5. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
6. Contact Us
